Hi, we are Riley – aged 14 and Keegan – aged 13 Hall. We live in Dunedin and we train and compete in Karate
We are hoping to raise the funds necessary to represent New Zealand in Croatia at the World Karate Federation’s World Youth Cup.
We train karate 7 days a week, we work really hard and we also teach a children’s class for primary school kids. We travel to as many regional and national competitions as we can fund. We sell coffee, tea, chocolates and lollies to fundraise for this trip. Our mum is our sole carer and she works over time but we are unable to fund the World Youth Cup trip.
I, Riley, won bronze in kumite at the national Secondary Schools championships last year and Keegan won bronze at the national karate championships.
We have lived in Dunedin most of our lives. We like to swim, bike, go to the beach, but most of all we love to do karate. We also do CrossFit for strength, we teach a children’s karate class once a week and really enjoy it as we love helping the kids in our club by coaching at tournaments.
I have competed all over New Zealand and two years ago I got the chance to go to the Goju-Ryu World Champs which were held in Auckland, where I won silver in the kata.
Last year I was chosen to go to the Oceania Champs in New Caledonia as part of the New Zealand team and placed 4th.
After high school we want to keep doing karate and work in a sports related field like PE teaching or coaching.
