Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman and then there’s little old me… Hi I’m Riana, a keen basketballer aged 13 (although I love a bit of netball also). I first started playing basketball as a 5yr old at primary school level. I loved the competitive spirit it gave me & I have been playing it ever since.
I got into reps at the age of 9 & quickly decided that this was going to be my game!
My first two years of reps was slightly hindered with the discovery of a minor heart condition called Supraventricular Tachycardia. Simply put, this meant that my heart would beat faster than normal. I underwent a series of testing & monitoring which limited the amount of time I could stay on the court for. Luckily my case wasn’t too serious & I was taught how to manage my episodes. This just made me want to play more!
Basketball is a very expensive sport & I’ve been involved at a representative level for some years now, having been on several tournaments throughout the country & most recently on the NZ Development Tour to Australia in January 2016.
This has of course taken it’s toll on the family finances & my parents are struggling to meet this years costs. They are very supportive of me & do not want their limited resources to limit my development.
I have two younger brothers who are also keen on their own sports. So it’s become a real struggle for mum & dad to keep up with all my costs. I’d appreciate some funding to help ease that pressure for them.
PLEASE HELP A YOUNG BASKETBALLER CONTINUE ON HER JOURNEY.
