Description

The Piha / Huntington Beach Junior Lifeguard Exchange is between the Piha Surf Lifesaving Club of New Zealand and the Huntington Beach Junior Guards of California, USA. It is both cultural and (mainly) educational. It is a well established and well respected programme for 14 to 18 year olds, having shown many ongoing benefits for the both Clubs over the years since its beginnings.

The aim of the Exchange is to promote and foster goodwill between both entities and provide upskilling for members, ongoing lifeguard retention, and the development of future leaders in lifeguarding with these Juniors becoming our future Patrol captains etc within the Piha SLSC.
Cultures are shared, and friends for life are made.

Current Team in front Club

We need a travel uniform to go to California in July 2016. Shirts and Shorts, caps, wetsuit vests and travel bags.

This is more that $5000 but we’d be so grateful for any amount. The team is representing NZ as well as Piha, so we need to look smart in our Team outfits.
The team and management are all volunteers – none of us receive and remuneration. And as we all put in hundreds of hours voluntarily in keeping our community and visitors safe at our Beach, we think we are a very worthy cause. The team are all ‘sporty’ and many compete in surf sports, but being so kind-heated as to give up their time voluntarily to help others makes them special people as well as great sports people.

WHAT WILL THE FUNDING BE USED FOR?

Travel uniform for the squad to wear on exchange

HOW WILL THIS BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY?

The Huntington Exchange Team travels to California (Huntington Beach) to train alongside Huntington Beach Junior Guards, to learn more about lifeguarding – so they can come back and be better lifeguards at Piha in the future. As we travel overseas we need to be in a Team Uniform, and we like to look like a well organised group. We are all volunteers, and we do what we do for our community. So we are community spirited first and foremost. We all give up many, many hours.
