Hi, I am Olivia and I have been selected to travel to the United States with the NZ Basketball Academy in July.
I grew up in Rotorua with my mother and 2 older siblings. I never thought I would be where I am today considering the type of upbringing I’ve had. I started playing basketball at the age of 14, I immediately fell in love with the sport as it let me relieve of all the troubles I was facing as a kid. I have achieved many things in basketball, like representative teams and have had trials for the national team but never had the money to go further. My big goal is to someday play for an American college and study there. I would also love to play in Europe. I have managed to save $1000 from refereeing miniature basketball and umpiring netball but it won’t be enough to bring my dream to reality. I want my story to prove that you can go further and be better than what you have been, I want to prove myself and explore my potential in sport.
I have so much potential. My mum is a solo parent and the financial struggles have been difficult, however, this has not stopped me from achieving. Unfortunately, I am unable to fundraise alone.
