I am Lewis Thomson, a year 13 student who lives in Invercargill. I have been training in artistic gymnastics at the local Invercargill Gymnastics Club for over ten years.
From the beginning of year nine, I started training very seriously and have since been representing Southland for artistic gymnastics in Auckland, Tauranga, Nelson and other parts of the country.
At this years Gymnastics National Championships, I managed to take home a gold on floor for Southland, winning by an exceptional margin, as well as making other apparatus finals.
Because of my successes at the National Championships and other competitions throughout this year, I have been picked to be a part of a team representing New Zealand at the beginning of next year, 2020. I will be competing in an International competition in Houston and Dallas, Texas, USA. This is a huge achievement for myself and a dream I’ve had for a long time. I will be the first male gymnast in Southland to ever compete internationally for gymnastics.
This will only be possible if I manage to raise $6,000, as this is the estimated price to cover travel, competition entries, food, accommodation, training and uniform. I would love for you to help make my dream of being the first male gymnast from Southland competing as a New Zealand representative possible, and for that I gratefully ask for the donation. The donations received will go towards this trip and will be immensely appreciated.
Representing New Zealand for gymnastics will also help grow our small mens gymnastics community down south.
