I am a 15 year Palmerston North Boys High School student. I come from a solo parent family in which my mum works hard to support me. I started playing basketball when i was 12 and got selected to play for Palmerston North in my first year playing. I fell in love with the game and finally realised my height is a benefit after being one of the biggest kids in my classes throughout primary school. I made the rep squad again in 2015 where we placed 3rd at the nationals. This earnt me a NZ trial but I was unsuccessful in getting in the team.
I did however learn a lot from the trials and it made me strive to get better. I attend Impact training camps up to 4 times a year that are here in Auckland and Wellington, which we fund raise to help get me there. We have started to fund raise to get me to Florida and I am looking for additional support as it is quite a large amount of money. Any help to take the stress off my mum would be greatly appreciated .
JAKE NEEDS HELP TO ATTEND A TRAINING CAMP HE HAS BEEN SELECTED FOR IN THE USA!
I have been selected to go to Florida in April 2017 with the Impact New Zealand basketball team. This is a 3 week trip with a cost of $5500.00. This is for travel cost, accommodation, training fees, tournament costs, uniforms, ground transportation and insurance
In his first year playing, 2013, he made the Palmerston North Reps, then again in 2015.
Jakes ultimate goal is to play in the NBA. The steps to get there are making the Palmerston North rep team next year, travel with the impact team 2017, Boys High Prem A team 2017 and NZ trial 2017. In making these teams he hopes to get seen by some American college coaches and the experience needed to play for National Teams here in NZ.
