Hi, My name is Dylan Weaich and I have just been selected to the New Zealand Under 14 Representative team going to Melbourne. This selection was made after a 4 day intensive training camp held in Rotorua with 78 other U14 basketballers from around the country.
My parents have backed me all the way through my basketball career by paying to get me to all the tournaments I’ve been to and I know this hasn’t been easy for them. So I’m trying take some weight off their backs and raise some money for myself.
I started playing Basketball when I was 11 and I played at the local club. I was very successful at my club, the coaches always told me that I was one of the best in the team and I felt very proud. This provided me with the confidence that I needed and I knew that I could go further. Following this, I trialled for North Canterbury Basketball and was able to make the South Island Primary Tournament, I was subsequently named the MVP of my team. This success lead me to try even harder to make even better teams.
This motivation has worked very well, I have made travelling teams and Under 13 regional teams for the North Canterbury Association I am very passionate about basketball and this tournament will help me move towards my goal, going to the US and playing college basketball and eventually making the NBA.
The cost for the tour is $2100 plus return flights from Christchurch to Auckland. This covers return airfares to Melbourne from Auckland, Accommodation, Food (including recovery food), Travel insurance, Entry fees, Local transportation, Playing Uniform, Off court gear, training court hire and off court activities.
My parents support my love of basketball and have given me every opportunity to succeed, however every opportunity costs and these costs mount up. I have also started High School this year so that was another big financial outlay for my parents. I only found out I am part of this U14 rep team on Sunday and we have 5 weeks to get together the money for the tour which isn’t long. I know my parents don’t have that kind of money so I wanted to do something myself to help raise the funds.
Your support would be greatly appreciated!
