Description

CHARLIE IS A CHAMPION BUT DESPERATELY NEEDS HELP TO CONTINUE COMPETING

This is Charlie Lester-Rosson.  Charlie is 14 and in love with BMX Riding.  Charlie has been selected for Olympian Sarah Walker’s BMX Race Team.

Charlie knew from age 11 that she wanted to pursue a pathway in competitive BMX riding.

It’s just her and her mum at home and they have very little money to fund Charlie’s sport.  Charlie dedicated her year 7 and 8 years to raising her grades in hope of achieving a scholarship to St Peters College.  With their financial situation, Charlie knew this would be the only way forward.  She earned top marks in most subjects, giving her a platform to apply for scholarships.  As a result, St Peters School awarded Charlie the highest amount possible for the scholarships.  Charlie received one for financial hardship, one for sporting excellence and one for academic excellence.

I think Charlie’s attitude is a great base to hopefully become the most incredible BMX Athlete and to just become the most incredible human being.

Sarah Walker, Olympic BMX Champion

In order for Charlie to participate in BMX she understands and accepts that there are no holidays, no dinners out, no Christmas presents and that her mum is not able to travel and watch her compete.  They have managed four years of BMX riding and live week to week.  Due to the financial expense of traveling, Charlie has learnt to accept that she often needs to travel alone with other BMX rider’s families and has built an incredible level of resilience and is mentally strong.

Charlie is unable to finance much coaching but is driven to work hard and often trains alone.  Charlie also mentors a number of younger kids, always having time for them and encouraging them. She has a beautiful heart for others.
