GRANT ROUND COMPLETE

Description

Hi, I am Annabel Watts. I have been selected to travel to New York and Virginia as part of the Virginia Military Tattoo

I started Highland Dancing at the age of 3 and over the past 14 years, my passion for Highland Dancing has been ever growing. My past dance teacher and current dance teacher (Jackie Jones) have helped me test my limits and help me achieve some of my biggest goals.

Some of my biggest achievements to date are being a National Title holder for the Sailors Hornpipe at the National Championships held in Dunedin in 2016, winning South Island and North Island championships, having so far gotten the highest mark in all my dancing exams (Honours) and finally, being selected to be apart of the Highland Dance Company of New Zealand

This year I was selected for the Highland Dance Company of New Zealand, which has been one of my goals since the company was created. The company is traveling to Virginia and New York, (USA) in 2018 to perform in the prestigious Virginia Military Tattoo.

Alongside all of this, I have been balancing NCEA Level 2, dancing practices and also exam work and theory. This is sometimes a struggle as dancing practice can make my day very long and therefore I often find it hard fitting in school work.

I hope the people of New Zealand will be able to see how much love I have for the art of Highland Dancing and hopefully want to help me get to the places I have aspired to be from such a young age.
