Description

We are heading to the national Waka Ama sprints held at Lake Karapiro. We hope to qualify for the world sprints in May held in the Sunshine Coast. Our paddlers cannot afford new equipment for these races and we believe this will certainly give them equal opportunities to qualify, with those who can afford equipment.

Our sport is Waka ama or Outrigging. In our training program we provide free swim lessons to all Youth twice a week. This will ensure that our Youth can keep themselves safe in and around the water. Our Youth ages vary from 12 to 17 years. We run a free bootcamps for our Youth to keep their fitness up. Our Youth have paddling sessions at the least three times a week depending on weather. We target races at the beginning of each year and work towards those races. We have long term goals which are a events that happen every two year. Our next goal is to qualify for the World Sprints held in Australia.

We are looking for assistance to get new paddles. We have paddles that are over 5 years old and are just hanging in there. Most of our Youth are unable to purchase their own and with the World sprints coming up we really need have racing paddles and not old heavy ones.
