Hi, I’m Sienna! I have recently been selected for the New Zealand U16 Koru basketball team to play in Albury, Australia in January 2018. I really need your support to get there!
It is a huge honour for me to be selected for this team as I have only played basketball for 2 seasons and am only 13 years old!
I grew up playing rugby with the boys so the idea of playing basketball in an all girls team was very exciting! Although I only started playing basketball last year, I have quickly found a love for the sport and am always training hard. At the beginning of the season last year, my team were struggling to come away with a win but we did not let this get us down and just kept on fighting. We really progressed as a team and thoroughly enjoyed the season together.
This year I decided to trial for the U15 team and ended up making the B team! I was really proud of this achievement and continued traveling an hour in the car, 3 times a week to get to Tauranga. This commitment involves a significant investment of both time and money and I am so grateful for everyone who is helping me get to where I want to be!
I was also very privileged to be able to attend a New Zealand U14 talent camp. This was an awesome opportunity for me as I got to play alongside some of the best players from all around NZ. I have competed in a number of tournaments throughout the year and placed 4th at nationals in Dunedin with the A team.
My goal is to play basketball for NZ within the next 2 years. I practice hard, listen well and still keep up with my school work. I was captain of my local basketball team as well as being named ‘most valuable player’ for the season.
As I am one of 8 children who are all really passionate about sport, the costs associated with attending tournaments like these are huge for my parents. To be able to get to Australia in January 2018, I really need your support.
I promise to strive to be the very best I can be, both on and off the court.
