Hi, I am Reihana, I am 16 and have been selected for the New Zealand U16 Basketball Team to go to Perth in July.
My older brother first got me into basketball at the age of 8, everyday after school I’d come home and get asked if I wanted to play ball with him at the courts and every day he would make me compete and challenge him, which I think is why I am the player I am today. He is the reason I love the sport.
My mum is a single parent and looks after me and my little brother. Unfortunately, she is currently unable to work and we are finding it extremely difficult to finance my training camps and the NZ Basketball trip to Australia. Mum manages to pay most of our local fees, however, these costs are currently out of our reach and I would love to find a way to help by trying to raise some funds by myself.
The most challenging obstacle I have in my life is probably that I come from a hard background, that can make it difficult to be able to afford the same opportunities as the others that I play with and against. I am determined to find a way to help make my dreams come true.
