GRANT ROUND COMPLETE

Description

My name is Pelea Fruean (family and friends call me Lea) I am Samoan, 16 years old

and my passion is boxing.

My boxing journey started in 2012 when my dad asked me if I was interested in training with my first cousin Joseph Parker doing boxing. That was my very first time putting on a pair of gloves and in 2013, inspired by the success of Joe at a young age, I decided to pursue my amateur career and joined my very first boxing gym, the Shamrock Boxing Association with Ron Foley.  A year later, after training and learning with Ron Foley and at this point, I knew that boxing was a sport I wanted to be dedicated to.  I moved to his sons’ gym and trained under Regan Foley at the Boxfit Studio in Panmure ever since.  I am growing more and more as a fighter.

Though out my 5 years of boxing I have won 15 amateur fights including two New Zealand titles.  I have travelled to Serbia (after undergoing fundraising) with the Women’s New Zealand team, competing in the 5th Nations Cup – an international tournament where I fought to the finals and brought home Silver.  I was ranked 2nd in the world in the Women’s 60kg junior division and fought and won against Australia’s number one 60kg amateur female.

My ultimate goal is to compete at the 2020 Olympics and represent NZ and to compete in the 2017 Youth Commonwealth Games.  This would definitely help me step up to that goal and give me the experience I would need to be ready for this level of competition.  Money has always been a boundary for me and being able to move forward in my career as I miss opportunities to compete in big tournaments due to my financial situation.  Any financial support would be a big help to me, enabling me to be that step closer to my dream.  I train hard and I am passionate about my sport and making a name for myself and my country.

I come from a very low income family, only living with my mother who is currently unemployed due to health issues.  We are experiencing financial difficulties and my dad and brother are working to pay for school necessities, gym fees for my training and groceries.  Unfortunately we aren’t able to raise the money on our own in the short amount of time and appreciate the opportunity to find additional support.

Any contribution toward my dream will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.     PeLea
