Description
I am 17 years old and I’m from Mount Maunganui. Since the age of 7 when I rode my first wave at our local beach, I have been hooked on Surfing. Over the past 10 years surfing has gone from being a beach day activity to bring the family together on weekends, to a competitive sport taking me all across the globe to locations such as Australia, Brazil, California, Costa Rica, Hawaii and Portugal for events. Throughout these amazing 10 years of being a Surfer I have had goals such as winning a regional competition, which progressed to winning a national competition and then to representing NZ at a junior level followed by senior level. All of which I am proud to say, I have achieved. Looking to the future, I hope to compete at the olympics, with surfing now being included in Tokyo 2020. My dream to be a professional surfer. These goals of mine however, require funding to compete, including build up events that will help to progress my surfing to a professional level. My next big event on my journey to achieving these goals is to improve on my 22nd placing in 2016 at the ISA World Surfing Games. I will compete in the Open Womens division, representing New Zealand as part of the NZ Open Surfing Team.
The cost for travel, competition fees, food and accomodation are estimated to be around $5000. This is too expensive for my family to afford alone or without major sponsorship.
I’m proud of being the NZ U17 girls series winner, 3rd at the Ripcurl Grom Search International Final after winning the Ripcurl Grom Search National Final, 22nd place at the 2016 ISA World Surfing Games and 7th at the 2016 ISA World Junior Surfing Games.
