Description
WHY?
I have been selected in the New Zealand Junior Surfing Team travelling to the Azores, Portugal to compete in the International Surfing Association (ISA) World Junior Surfing Games. The team members need to find approx. $6500 to meet the costs to travel to the competition. Please help me get this event.
Although I have saved some money and have help from family members contributing towards the financial costs, this will not be enough to cover the costs to get me to the World Games.
THE STORY
I’m from Mount Maunganui, New Zealand and have been hooked on surfing since I was around 7 years old. It all started when I would attempt to stand up on my boogie board. Not long after that I traded the boogie board for my Dad’s Longboard and caught my first ever wave surfing at the local beach. A few years later after more hours in the water and a grown enthusiasm for Surfing I entered my first competition at age 11 and placed 2nd in my division. I found that competition surfing was ideal for me because it combined the use of my competitive spirit and passion for surfing. Competitive surfing since then has taken me all around New Zealand and across the globe in places such as Australia, Brazil, California, Hawaii and now hopefully Portugal for the World Games. The ISA World Junior Games will be held in September of this year with over 200 nations competing. This will be my second year competing for New Zealand at this event where I previously placed 25th in the u16’s category when the competition was help in Oceanside, California last year. This year I will be stepping up an age group into u18’s girls division where I hope to improve on my 25th place.
