Description

Hi, my name is Amy Ogilvy-Hickey, I’m 17 years old and I come from Whangarei

I have loved playing sports since I was a very young girl. I played rugby, netball, cricket and I loved swimming.  As I got older I played a lot of netball. I was selected for the Northland Area Schools team when I was 13 and I was very excited to represent Northland but unfortunately soon after, I had a fall during a game and tore my anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee. I was off sports for a year and I missed playing so much. Luckily one lunch time in year ten I saw the seniors playing volley ball and I fell in love with the sport instantly. I have been playing ever since and over the past 3 years I was selected for the Northland Area Schools team and went further on to be selected for the New Zealand Area Schools team. This grew my passion for the sport even further.

This year I was selected to go to Christchurch for the National Area Schools tournament in July 2018. My family is currently trying to fund my younger brother’s trip to Las Vegas for basketball and it will be a huge struggle to try and send me to Christchurch at the same time.  I am currently working two part time jobs but the money from these jobs won’t be enough to send me to Christchurch as I only work after school.  Getting funding for my trip would be an extremely huge help and my family and I would be forever grateful, no matter how small a donation, it would mean a great deal and I would love to thank anyone that may possibly think of helping me reach my goal of being selected for the NZ area schools team for my last year in school.

Thank you, from Amy.
