Hi, I’m Theresa Ngata and I have been selected to represent New Zealand in the Junior Youth Women’s Volleyball team, competing in Vietnam, in June!
I play high level across three different sporting codes, including volleyball, netball and basketball and I am yet to specialise in only one sport. Being involved in sport requires a great deal of responsibility, time and commitment and as you can imagine, this commitment on top of my school work and chores at home is difficult to manage. I enjoy exploring my passion for all three sports and I’m grateful for this amazing opportunity to represent my country and family in the Junior Youth Women’s Volleyball team.
I am the fifth eldest of eight children. Four of us are currently in high school and two are in tertiary education. My family have a huge impact on my sporting career, they are the backbone to my success and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their constant love, support and encouragement. With a family this large, there is a lot of financial strain on our parents, who try their best to enable every opportunity they can. I am seeking financial support in hope of easing the financial load from my parents.
If I can compete in Vietnam, the opportunity will open up a pathway for me to pursue in volleyball and I would work very hard towards being an asset to my team.
Along with the support of my dedicated family, friends and your support, I can reach my goal of representing my country in a once in a lifetime opportunity and open potential doors for overseas scholarships in one of the sports I love.
