Hi, I am Summer Rutherford and I am 18 years old. I have been selected to represent New Zealand for the first time at the 2017 Oceania Athletics Championships to be held in Fiji
I have been competing in Athletics competitively since I was 10 years old and have enjoyed it a lot. My parents took me to the annual Colgate Games until I was 14 where I made many friends and enjoyed success. I have always dreamed of competing for NZ and I am very excited and motivated. I won my first national title at the NZ Track and Field Championships this year in the U20 women’s 100m hurdles. I was also honoured to be in the winning Canterbury senior women’s 4x100m relay team. I will be competing in the 100m hurdles, 100m and long jump in Fiji. I train 6 days a week in a really motivated squad. I train hard and really enjoy competing and meeting new people. I can’t wait to represent NZ.
This is my first time representing NZ in another country and requires a significant financial outlay. I am a full time student in my first year studying for a sport and exercise science degree. I am seeking some assistance from my local club and local athletics body. In addition to the event fee, I have to fund my own flights from Christchurch to Auckland and return as the team meets in Auckland, this is a further $250
As this is an athlete funded event I am seeking assistance with the costs totalling $2501.00 for travel, accommodation and associated expenses. Any donation at all would be greatly appreciated and would take me one step closer to achieving my dream of representing New Zealand in the sport that I love.
