GRANT ROUND COMPLETE

Description

Hi my name is Riley Hall I am 14 years old and I live in Dunedin. The profile picture of me is when I was in the warm up area before my competition in Auckland last year.

I have lived in Dunedin most of my life. I love to swim, bike, play basketball, play futsal but most of all I love to do karate. I train 5 times a week in karate with my teacher and I also do CrossFit for strength. I teach a children’s karate class once a week and really enjoy it. Once a month I travel to Christchurch and train with the National Coach.

I have competed all over New Zealand and last year I got the chance to go to the Goju-Ryu World Champs which were held in Auckland. I won a silver in the kata at that competition. This year I was chosen to go to Oceania Champs in September in New Caledonia as part of the New Zealand team. I am really excited because this is my first chance to travel overseas for karate. In the future I want to go to the Commonwealth Championships next year and hopefully the WKF Championships. After high school I want to keep doing karate and work in a sports related field like PE teaching or coaching.

SPORTING GOALS

My goals are to go to the Goju Ryu World Champs next year (in Romania) and also the Commonwealth Champs next year.  In the future hopefully the Olympics (if karate is in for Tokyo 2020).

HIGHEST SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS

My highest achievement is definitely last year when I came 2nd in the 14-15 Kata at the Goju-Ryu World champs.
