Hi my name is Onevai and I have a dream!
I am a proud young New Zealand/Tongan girl and I am excited to represent the NZ pacific people internationally. I joined my first synchronised swimming club when I was 5 years old and have been dedicated to the sport ever since.
Synchronised swimming is very difficult and extremely hard work. I have competed both nationally and internationally in New Zealand and Australia. Synchronised swimming has been a huge challenge for me, but I continue to work my way up!
The hard work and perseverance is beginning to pay off as I have now qualified to join the Junior development PIKO PIKO squad.
I have had a lot of fun over the past years developing strong friendships with my club mates and discovering that I can achieve goals if I practice and persevere. I love being a part of a team and feel very supported. Having a great support system has helped me get to where I am today.
My family are my other support team. They pay my termly fees, equipment costs, pool entry and local and national competition fees.
In my family we look after a young boy who has ADHD and trauma related issues. My mum spends a lot of time caring for him and is unable to work full time. Financially it has been quite tricky for my family, as my parents have needed to send money to Tonga to help our family with the recovery from a recent natural disaster. I know that they try their hardest for me to achieve my dreams and I would love the opportunity to make them proud!
