Hi, I’m Luey Cotton, I’m 16 years old and I love BMX!
I am raising funds to compete in 5 international BMX events in Australia during the summer, in hope of being selected in NZ’s Junior Elite team for the BMX World Championships!
It all started off when I was just 4 years old and my parents took me down to the local BMX track on a little 12-inch Bob the Builder bike and from then on I was in love with the sport of BMX. I competed in my first national competition when I was just 7 years old and placed 5th. A few years later I qualified to attend the 2009 BMX World Championships. In 2012 I was selected as one of four members to represent New Zealand in Australia. This 10-day trip was fantastic as it increased my desire to always try my very best and to continue to represent my country proud!
After a horrific accident on the track in 2012 and a long rehabilitation process, I am now back on my bike, stronger and more resilient than ever! Throughout this journey my desire to ride stayed with me so I kept trying my best and always training my hardest.
In 2016 I placed 5th in the North Island titles and it was at this point when I decided to set myself even higher goals to strive towards. I am more inspired than ever before and driven to continue to achieve my goals!
To be selected as a Junior Elite to represent New Zealand at the World Championships next year, I have to compete in the Australian National Championship Series. This series starts in January 2018 and I will compete in Nerang, Bathurst, Sleemans, Cairns, and Melbourne. To finish off the selection process, I will compete back in New Zealand at the National Championships around Easter time next year!
As you can see the goals that I have set for myself require a great amount of hard work and dedication which I invest in every single day as well as significant funds. In order for me to achieve my goal, I must also fund these trips myself.
